Wet-area refits

Bathroom and laundry upgrades that hold up where it matters

Full refits, walk-in showers, waterproofing and laundry rebuilds across Canberra, handled directly by Ben and Ryan.

What we cover

Bathroom and laundry work we can quote

Wet areas are unforgiving. Cut a corner on waterproofing and the customer pays for it twice. BRT treats bathrooms and laundries as a single specialty, handled directly.

Full bathroom rebuilds

Strip-out, reframe where needed, re-waterproof, re-tile and reinstall, suited to 60s through 90s Canberra bathrooms that have reached the end of their life.

Wet-area waterproofing

Full membrane to AS 3740. Floor pans, hobs, junction details. The unsexy part of a bathroom that decides whether it lasts 5 years or 25.

Walk-in shower upgrades

Removing tub and shower combos, building proper walk-in shower bases with the right fall, frameless or semi-frameless glass, niches and bench seats.

Vanities and fixtures

Replacing vanities, basins, tapware, toilets and shower fittings. You source the items you want, or BRT will guide you to suppliers we trust.

Laundry rebuilds

From single-cupboard utility laundries to full mudroom-style layouts. Bench, sink, cabinetry, ventilation and paint, same wet-area discipline as a bathroom.

Why the unseen work matters

The part you do not see is what decides if a bathroom lasts 5 years or 25

Wet-area finishes are personal. What BRT controls is the substrate, the membrane, the falls and the install quality underneath whatever finish you choose. That is the part that decides whether the bathroom holds up.

  • Waterproofing membrane to AS 3740
  • Substrate and bond breakers
  • Floor falls and threshold detail
  • Pipe and waste reroutes
  • Ventilation and exhaust paths
  • Edge waterproofing at tile junctions
Material and layout choices

Choosing the right finish and layout

Bathroom finishes are personal. Bring a Pinterest board or a supplier you like and BRT will work to it. The points below are the conversations we usually have at the quote.

Tile and grout

Floor and wall tile, large format, hex, subway, mosaic. BRT will quote against the tile system you have specified, including waste allowance and cutting on the cleanest line we can give.

Vanities, fixtures and tapware

Wall-hung or floor vanities, basins, tapware, toilets and shower fittings. You source what you love, or BRT will guide you to suppliers we already trust.

Layout and accessibility

Walk-in shower placement, niche shelves, bench seats, threshold details, accessible layouts for ageing in place. Practical questions answered at the site visit.

Ben or Ryan can bring tile samples or talk through finish options during the quote, so you are not choosing from a screen alone.

Plan it together

Planning the bathroom and the renovation together

If the bathroom is part of a wider renovation, the trades, layout and sequence should be planned as one project. That means thinking about how walls move, where the plumbing reroutes go and what the kitchen and laundry should share.

  • One coordinated build, one trade running it
  • Plumbing and electrical planned in one pass
  • Consistent finishes between rooms
  • Less downtime than two separate projects

Refit or rebuild

Not every old bathroom needs to be stripped to the studs

If the waterproofing and the layout are still working, a surface refit can deliver the look without the price tag of a full rebuild. If they are not, Ben or Ryan will show you why before quoting the bigger scope.

When a refit may make sense

  • Surfaces dated, fixtures tired
  • Layout still works for how you use the room
  • Waterproofing is still sound
  • You want a refresh, not a redesign

When a full rebuild may be smarter

  • Waterproofing has failed, tiles lifting
  • Layout no longer suits the household
  • Plumbing or substrate has issues behind the wall
  • The room is being rolled into a larger renovation
Our process

How the quote and build works

1

Site visit and measure

Ben or Ryan comes out, walks the room, checks access, plumbing rough-in and anything that could affect the build.

2

Talk through options

You discuss tile, vanity, fixtures, layout changes, walk-in vs tub-shower and the practical detail that decides the scope.

3

Written, itemised quote

You get the scope, inclusions, exclusions and material allowances in writing before work starts.

4

Build with updates

BRT keeps the job direct, with progress updates and the site kept tidy as the work moves along.

5

Handover

Ben or Ryan walks the finished bathroom with you, checks final details and closes out the job properly.

FAQ

Questions before quoting a bathroom

Do you do the plumbing and electrical yourselves?

BRT coordinates licensed plumbers and electricians as part of the project. Their work is folded into the written quote so you have one point of contact and one timeline.

How do you handle waterproofing?

Full membrane system to AS 3740, with bond breakers at hob and floor junctions. Tested before tile goes down. We do not sign off the wet area until it is right.

Can you re-tile without ripping the whole bathroom out?

Sometimes. If the substrate and waterproofing are still sound, surface refits are possible. If the membrane has failed, the right call is usually a full rebuild, and Ben or Ryan will show you why before quoting it.

Do you do walk-in shower conversions?

Yes. Removing tub-shower combos, building proper walk-in bases with the right fall, frameless or semi-frameless glass, niches and accessible thresholds.

Can you do the bathroom and laundry in the same job?

Yes, and that is often the better way to plan it. Same waterproofing discipline, shared trades and a single sequence keeps the build tight.

How long does a bathroom quote take?

After the site visit, BRT puts together a written quote once the scope and material choices are clear.
